Official WCOPA Theme Music At the invitation of the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), Gordon Harrell from New York journeyed to Capetown, South Africa in the fall of 2003 as a member of a select panel of entertainment industry “movers and shakers” from the USA to judge a prestigious WCOPA certified event. Mr. Harrell is an acclaimed musical conductor, arranger, composer and supervisor of many Broadway Tony award-winning shows, television series and films.
His inimitable experiences at this special global event inspired Gordon to compose an impressionable song reflecting the unmatched purity of WCOPA’s goals: Creating, developing and producing activities around the world in which to encourage aspiring talent “to be the best you can be” while “building bridges” of sportsmanship, honesty and compassion to all mankind.
In the summer of 2004, Mr. Harrell presented his original composition to WCOPA which ultimately accepted this work of musical art as the official theme song.
Gordon then worked throughout 2005 to refine the arrangements and lyrics of the theme song while also composing an official anthem. In the spring of 2006, WCOPA invited Katy Benko, 1999 World Grand Champion vocalist, to record the masterpiece in New York. An orchestra, composed of musicians who collectively had 36 Grammy awards, exclusively selected by and under the baton of Mr. Harrell and featuring Katy resulted in a spell-binding recording of Building Bridges.
This beautiful theme music composed, arranged and conducted by Gordon Harrell and sung by Ms. Benko was introduced at the 2006 international event! Pam Ward, 2006 Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World, was given the honor of singing the official theme song the next year at the 2007 World Championships of Performing Arts.
The official theme music and anthem of WCOPA are now spotlighted on this website.
